JAC Studios
JAC STUDIOS is a Copenhagen-based design and architecture studio that combines architecture, scenography, and artistic approaches. The studio primarily works on exhibition architecture for museums, companies, and public spaces, guiding projects from concept and design development through to detailed drawings, production, and implementation. The company was formally established as a private limited company (ApS) in 2017, though its activities and projects in exhibition design date back earlier.
The studio is characterized by a narrative approach to space: exhibitions are not merely displays of objects but carefully crafted environments where light, sound, furniture, and visitor movement all play an active role. While the exhibited objects remain the central focus, architectural and scenographic interventions are used to highlight, engage, and guide the audience’s experience.
JAC STUDIOS is led by Johan Carlsson, an architect and designer trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture and Design (KADK) and the Architectural Association (AA) in London. The team includes architects, scenographers, designers, and artists who collaborate across disciplines and work closely with clients and partners.
The studio has experience with both small and large-scale projects, creating exhibitions that consider spatial dynamics, visitor movement, and audience engagement. Its vision is to develop contextual exhibitions where storytelling, content, and spatial experience are integrated. Stylistically, the studio combines architecture and scenography with attention to materiality, aesthetics, and user experience, often adapting solutions to the specific context of each space.
With a “one-stop” approach from concept to production, JAC STUDIOS offers coherence and professional breadth, enabling the creation of engaging, meaningful spaces that actively involve visitors in the experience.
JAC STUDIOS er et københavnsk design- og arkitektstudie, der kombinerer arkitektur, scenografi og kunstneriske metoder. Studiet arbejder primært med udstillingsarkitektur for museer, virksomheder og offentlige rum og følger processen fra idé og koncept til detailtegning, produktion og udbud. Virksomheden blev formelt etableret som ApS i 2017, men har rødder i tidligere projekter og aktiviteter inden for udstillingsdesign.
Studiet er kendetegnet ved en narrativ tilgang til rummet: Udstillingerne bliver ikke blot en opstilling af genstande, men scenografiske miljøer, hvor lys, lyd, møbler og brugerens bevægelse spiller en aktiv rolle. Genstanden forbliver udstillingens hovedfokus, men arkitektoniske og scenografiske greb bruges til at fremhæve og engagere publikum.
JAC STUDIOS ledes af Johan Carlsson, uddannet arkitekt og designer fra Københavns Arkitekt- & Designskole (KADK) og Architectural Association (AA) i London. Teamet består af arkitekter, scenografer, designere og kunstnere, der arbejder tværfagligt og i tæt dialog med kunder og samarbejdspartnere.
Studiet har erfaring med både små og store projekter og udvikler udstillinger, der tager højde for rumlighed, bevægelse og publikumsinvolvering. Visionen er at skabe kontekstuelle udstillinger, hvor formidling, fortælling og rumoplevelse går hånd i hånd. Stilistisk kombinerer studiet arkitektur og scenografi, med fokus på materialitet, æstetik og brugeroplevelse, ofte med løsninger, der tilpasses rummets specifikke kontekst.
