Lise Haller Baggesen
Lise Haller Baggesen (b. 1969, Aarhus, Denmark) is an internationally active, interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago. Her practice spans painting, textiles, installation, performance, and writing, often exploring textile materials and the intersections of art, gender, motherhood, and society. Baggesen studied at AKI Enschede and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam before completing an MA in Visual & Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
She is known for the project Mothernism (2013–), which investigates the “mother-shaped void” in contemporary art discourse through books, sound installations, and performances. Her work has been exhibited internationally in Europe and the United States, and she has received awards such as the Prince Bernhard Culture Prize and the Royal Dutch Prize for Modern Painting.
